Arita ware refers to porcelain produced in Arita town in Saga Prefecture and its surrounding areas, and it became widely used after the Meiji era. In the Edo period, it was called Imari ware or Hizen ware. When Japan sent troops to Korea in the late 16th century, it brought back Korean ceramic artists. Later, they moved to Arita in the early 17th century and discovered pottery stone, the raw material for porcelain, in Izumiyama. As the earliest production base of porcelain in Japan, it has been mainly engaged in the production of tableware and handicrafts for 400 years.
